Practice Overview

Josh has a busy criminal practice, regularly appearing in the Crown, Magistrates', and Youth courts, and also the High Court and Court of Appeal. Josh has expertise in a wide range of areas including drugs matters, sexual offences, extradition and violence offences. Josh is a Grade 3 CPS Panel Advocate.

Josh defends and prosecutes regularly in matters such as grievous bodily harm, threats to kill, drugs, fraud, blackmail, robbery, weapons and firearms offences and theft.

  • Defence
    • R v DB (Chester Crown Court, 2021) – acquittal of man charged with four counts of historic sexual assaults on a child.

    • R v AB (Court of Appeal, 2021) – reduction of sentence of curfew for youth convicted of robbery from 6 months to 3 months.

    • R v JM (Aylesbury Crown Court, 2020) – acquittal of man charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm following an altercation with a bouncer.
    • R v TF (Inner London Crown Court, 2019) – acquittal of man charged with false imprisonment and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
    • R v SL (Wood Green Crown Court, 2019) – acquittal of woman charged with s.20 wounding after biting off the top of another woman’s finger.
    • R v AH (Wood Green Crown Court, 2019) – acquittal of man charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
    • R v MR (Central Criminal Court, 2018) – acquittal of man charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.     • R v AN (Woolwich Crown Court, 2018) – acquittal of man charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of two knives and criminal damage.
    • R v FE (Court of Appeal, 2017) – convictions of theft and fraud quashed on appeal.
    • R v RM (Harrow Crown Court, 2017) – acquittal of woman charged with affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
    • R v RG (Court of Appeal, 2017) – successful appeal against sentence for robbery case. Sentence reduced from 6 to 5 years.
    • R v DS & others (Hove Crown Court, 2017) – led by Richard Hutchings in defence of client charged with conveying drugs and phones into Lewes prison.
    • R v KL (Central Criminal Court, 2017) – acquittal of man charged with threats to kill.
    • R v LF (Snaresbrook Crown Court, 2017) – acquittal of man charged with threats to kill.

    • R v MU (Southwark Crown Court, 2020) – prosecution and conviction of man charged with attempted s.18 and dangerous driving having deliberately driven his car at a man with whom he had been fighting.
    • R v JR & ors (Peterborough Crown Court, 2020) – led by Dan Wright in successful prosecution of four young men charged with violent disorder and s.18 wounding.
    • R v TM (Southwark Crown Court, 2018) – secured conviction of man charged with numerous commercial burglaries.
    • R v JD, PB & CM (Peterborough Crown Court, 2017) – conviction of three men charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
    • R v IA (Woolwich Crown Court, 2016) – conviction of man charged with causing grievous bodily harm.
