Nia Gowman and Lewis Harrison appeared in a landmark judgment for the Court of Protection in Wales. TIRE (by her Litigation Friend LK) v Carmarthenshire County Council  [2024] EWCOP 81 (T2) represented the first reported Court of Protection judgment in Welsh, and marks another important step in the development of Welsh Language advocacy. Before HHJ Edwards sitting in Cardiff on the 2nd of December 2024, Nia and Lewis appeared on behalf of P (TIRE) and Carmarthenshire County Council respectfully in a s.21A of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 challenge, in a hearing conducted entirely in Welsh. HHJ Edwards proceeded to deliver her judgment in Welsh. TIRE (by her Litigation Friend LK) v Carmarthenshire County Council  [2024] EWCOP 81 (T2) becomes the first published Welsh language judgment in the Court of Protection. Nia and Lewis produced the translated appendix of the law, which is attached to the Judgment.
