Horse racing trainer Evan Williams has been found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent following an assault on a dog walker on his land in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Williams, 54, was convicted at Cardiff Crown Court after a jury found that he repeatedly struck 72‑year‑old Martin Dandridge with a hockey stick during a night‑time incident in Llancarfan in December 2024. Mr Dandridge suffered serious injuries, including a fractured arm. The jury returned its verdict after approximately 90 minutes of deliberation.

The prosecution case was that Williams mistakenly believed Mr Dandridge, who was walking his dog with a torch, to be involved in illegal lamping on his land and confronted him aggressively. Wil Bebb, prosecuting, argued that Williams acted with intent and used a weapon during the attack.

Williams was granted bail following conviction, with sentencing adjourned pending the preparation of reports. He is due to be sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on 14 April 2026
