Dan Jones, instructed by CPS Cymru, successfully prosecuted Operation Sandmoor, an investigation by Gwent Police into the supply of cocaine and heroin in Newport by an organised crime group based in Birmingham.
Evidence was gathered against the OCG by analysis of cell site, call data, text messages and ANPR captures. The lead Defendant also made Drill videos, that he published on YouTube, boasting about his activities as a drug dealer. As part of the prosecution case an officer from the Metropolitan Police with an expertise in Drill music was called to assist the jury with interpreting the lyrics in those songs. The case team understand this is the first time that a Drill expert has been called in a Gwent Police drugs investigation.
All four members of the OCG were convicted of their parts in the conspiracy and were sentenced to a total of more than 20 years’ imprisonment.
