Paul Hewitt is a specialist criminal law barrister, with a busy Crown Court practice across Cardiff and South Wales.
He is known for his calm, focused advocacy and has conducted a wide range of serious and complex trials, from homicide and serious violence to fraud, drugs, and general criminal matters.
Paul originally qualified as a solicitor in 1997, working with respected South Wales firms including John Collins and Partners and Ivor Evans and Benjamin. His early practice covered civil litigation, including personal injury, property disputes, and commercial matters. In 2006, Paul joined the CPS, rising to Senior Crown Prosecutor. He was called to the Bar in 2010 and later joined 30 Park Place, focusing exclusively on criminal law.
Clients and instructing solicitors value Paul’s clarity, commitment, and courtroom presence. Whether providing early-stage advice or representation at trial, he brings a sincere, practical approach to every case.
Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Paul studied law through the University of London via Swansea Law School before completing the Legal Practice Course at Cardiff University. He brings international perspective and local insight to his work.
Outside court, Paul has a long-standing involvement in community sport. He is a former Chairman of Lisvane Cricket Club in Cardiff, a qualified umpire, and a member of the ECB ACO panel of officials. He retains a strong interest in rugby, cricket, and surfing.
Paul has extensive knowledge and experience of criminal law and has prosecuted and defended cases of: fraud, burglary, theft, robbery, rape (including allegations of historic offending), murder, manslaughter, all types of violent offences and cases involving dangerous driving and other road traffic offences.
