Nigel’s regulatory practice includes health and safety, environmental law, CQC, trading standards, and planning enforcement. He has specialist expertise in health and safety matters arising in a medical setting.

Nigel is a respected leading junior with extensive experience in serious and complex crime, including homicide, organised drugs offences, serious violence, and sexual offences. Known for his strong court presence and incisive cross-examination, he is trusted to handle significant cases with clarity, confidence, and authority.

Nigel has a national regulatory practice covering health and safety, environmental law, planning enforcement, and trading standards. He has particular expertise in health and safety in a medical setting, as he is regularly instructed by NHS Wales and Welsh Health Boards. He has considerable experience in matters involving pollution, waste, breaches of planning controls and statutory nuisance.

Nigel is frequently instructed to advise government bodies and business, recent examples include liability arising from RAAC, submissions to the Covid Enquiry, the legality of drug rehabilitation schemes and the provision of children’s homes.

  • R v L (R) & F (J) [2009] 1 Cr. App. R. 16 (CA) – Defence counsel in the guideline case that established the correct approach to the prosecution of unincorporated associations. The Court upheld the terminatory ruling in the Crown Court that led to the acquittal of both defendants.
