Nathan has acted as Chair and legal arbitrator in sports disciplinary proceedings for over a decade. He currently chairs panels for the Football Association of Wales and Sport Resolutions, bringing expertise and fair judgment to safeguarding, disciplinary and appeals matters in professional sport.

  • A (A Child) (Fact-Finding: Head Injury) [2024] EWCA Civ 327 – Appeared in the Court of Appeal in a case concerning complex medical evidence relating to non-accidental injury.
  • A County Council v L & Ors [2024] EWFC 120 – Instructed in a High Court case involving serious allegations of harm, international elements, and threshold criteria.
  • K and O (Children) [2018] EWHC 1455 (Fam) – Acted in High Court proceedings involving complex care and placement issues across multiple jurisdictions.
  • GM v Carmarthenshire County Council & Anor [2018] EWFC 36 – Appeared in care proceedings involving disputed psychiatric and psychological evidence.
  • Re C [2015] – Represented the Local Authority in a contested application for a care order before Sir Mark Hedley. The case concerned a highly vulnerable teenager with multiple placement breakdowns, raising issues around section 31A of the Children Act 1989 and the scope of judicial involvement in local authority decision-making.
  • Re LD v JD [2013] EWHC 3632 (Fam) – Contested committal proceedings for breach of an undertaking given in family proceedings.
  • Re M [2010] EWHC 2846 (Fam) – Represented the birth mother in an ‘exceptionally unusual’ High Court application concerning contact following a closed adoption.

Sports Law & Regulatory Work

  • Advised the Football Association of Wales on safeguarding and player welfare policies.
  • Acted for a Premier League football club in a dispute with a football agent.
  • Advised an elite athlete on selection for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
  • Successfully reduced a UKAD-imposed doping suspension from two years to six months for a Welsh Rugby Union player.
  • Successfully represented Merthyr Rugby Football Club before the Welsh Rugby Union Disciplinary Appeal Panel in relation to alleged breaches of Payment to Player Regulations.
  • Negotiated a settlement in relation to a Welsh Rugby Union player’s transfer.
  • ‘Has the time come for the Football Association to implement misconduct guidelines in relation to offences committed on the field of play?’ (June 2013)
