Lisa McCormick is a versatile advocate with a multi-disciplinary practice spanning crime, family, and public law.

Since joining 30 Park Place in 2019, after relocating from Leeds, she has built a reputation for her keen analysis, tenacity, and clear communication, particularly with vulnerable clients.

In family law, Lisa is instructed regularly by local authorities, parents, children and extended family members. She is experienced in public and private law proceedings, including those involving non-accidental injury, honour-based violence, forced marriage, and foreign elements. She has acted through the Official Solicitor and has presented arguments in the High Court in closed proceedings.

Lisa maintains a busy criminal practice acting for both the prosecution and defence in serious cases including sexual offences, fraud, drug conspiracies, and perverting the course of justice. She is a Grade 2 Prosecutor and also acts in quasi-criminal proceedings involving gang injunctions, sexual risk orders, and local authority enforcement actions.

Her Court of Protection experience includes challenging deprivation of liberty orders and representing vulnerable adults. She is particularly adept at advising and representing those with mental health disorders or learning difficulties and is trained to examine vulnerable witnesses.

Lisa is known for her clarity, strategic thinking and her ability to support clients through complex and challenging proceedings.

Expertise

Lisa acts in deprivation of liberty cases and matters concerning vulnerable adults. She is trained in the examination of vulnerable witnesses and is adept at advising and representing clients with mental health conditions or learning difficulties. Her approach is sensitive, pragmatic, and underpinned by her broader experience in public law.

Lisa represents both prosecution and defence in a range of serious criminal matters, including drugs, sexual offences, fraud and public order. She is a Grade 2 Prosecutor and also acts in quasi-criminal matters such as DVPOs and sexual risk orders. Her advocacy is measured, strategic, and highly regarded by her instructing solicitors.

Lisa is instructed regularly in public and private law children proceedings. Her experience includes non-accidental injury, forced marriage, sexual abuse and complex fact-finding hearings. She is commended for her tenacity, case strategy and ability to work effectively with vulnerable clients. She has appeared in the High Court and acted through the Official Solicitor.

Family & Court of Protection

  • T (A Child: Care Order: Beyond Parental Control: Deprivation of Liberty: Authority to Administer Medication) [2017] EWFC B1- Acted for Leeds City Council in a case involving deprivation of liberty, threshold criteria and authority to administer medication to a looked-after child without parental consent.
  • Re H (2017) – Acted for grandparents accused of contributing to the malnutrition of their grandchild. Following cross-examination of medical experts, the Court approved a supervision order in their favour.
  • Re N (2018) – Junior to Ian Skelt, representing the police in an application to withhold sensitive material in family proceedings concerning forced marriage and honour-based violence. Material remained undisclosed.
  • Re J (2019) – Acted for an intervenor seeking to re-open a finding of fact concerning life-threatening injuries to a child. Also involved in concurrent proceedings concerning her own child.
  • Re S (2019) – Represented a local authority in a non-accidental injury case involving an 11-day-old baby. Successfully narrowed the pool of perpetrators and secured key findings on timing and responsibility.
  • Re D (2019) – Represented a mother accused of coaching children into making allegations of sexual abuse. Successfully proposed maternal grandmother as carer, avoiding adverse findings.

Crime

  • R v Sharif – Represented a defendant in a three-week trial for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. They were the only defendant acquitted out of nine charged with attempting to influence a manslaughter jury.
  • R v Escobar – Successfully defended man accused of sexually assaulting his stepdaughter. Case turned on sensitive cross-examination of the complainant and presentation of defence evidence.
  • R v Seaman – Junior counsel in historical and recent sexual abuse case with seven complainants. Developed detailed understanding of disclosure handling.
  • R v Elliott – Defended client accused of drug importation and laundering approximately £1 million. Secured significantly reduced sentence through carefully negotiated basis of plea.
  • R v Khan – Defended against charges of breaching a restraining order. The Crown offered no evidence following cross-examination of the complainant.
  • Hillsborough Trial (Disclosure Junior) – Assisted in one of the most significant disclosure exercises in recent criminal litigation.
