Drugs & Organised Crime

  • Operation Vermont – Lead counsel in the prosecution of the largest drugs case brought before Cardiff Crown Court. 32 defendants charged in six conspiracies involving over 700kg of high-purity cocaine.
  • Operation Ulysses – Lead counsel in the prosecution of multi-million-pound Class A drug conspiracies involving over 60kg of heroin, cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, and cannabis. 30+ defendants and more than 60,000 pages of evidence across several organised crime groups.
  • Operation Finch – Lead counsel for the prosecution of 17 defendants in £2 million cocaine conspiracy across Newport. The case involved a two-year operation and substantial covert surveillance.
  • Operation Jackdaw – Prosecuted eight defendants in Class A drug conspiracy involving distribution of heroin across Newport. The case included multi-kilogram seizures and extensive cutting agents.
  • Operation Solano – Lead counsel for the prosecution involving large-scale cocaine distribution and cryptocurrency-based money laundering. There was over £2 million in laundered funds.
  • Operation Vemtor – Leading in the prosecution of conspiracy to supply over 180kg of cocaine into South Wales. Instructed by the Complex Casework Unit.
  • Operation Blue Zero – Leading in the prosecution of a Merseyside to North Wales conspiracy to supply wholesale quantities of cocaine, cannabis, and ketamine.
  • Operation Phobos – Leading junior in the successful prosecution of £18.5 million cocaine conspiracy across West Wales, Merseyside, and Manchester. Included extensive surveillance, ANPR and cell site evidence. Total sentences amounted to 171 years.
  • Operation Bounty – Leading junior in the prosecution of a million-pound cocaine conspiracy involving a former Cardiff nightclub owner.
  • Operation Dino 1 & 2 – Prosecuted in the largest “cash for crash” conspiracy in England and Wales. 83 of 87 defendants convicted. Currently instructed in Dino 2 with 80 defendants.
  • Operation Cable – Defence counsel in multi-handed counterfeit currency conspiracy. Defendant acquitted.
  • Operation Corolla / Operation Gearstick / Operation Othello – Junior in multiple high-volume drug supply conspiracies.

Homicide, Firearms & Serious Violence

  • R v Mears – Successful prosecution of defendant who broke into elderly ladies house and stamped her to death, jury rejected psychiatric evidence and did not accept the partial defence of diminished responsibility.
  • R v Cooper & Francis – Successfully prosecuted a single-punch murder case resulting in conviction.
  • R v Ramsey & Others – Sheffield Crown Court – Defence counsel in complex murder trial. Following legal submissions, no case to answer found and client acquitted of all charges including attempted murder and firearms offences.
  • Operation Blomfield – Prosecuted complex firearms case involving prohibited ammunition and discharge of weapons.

Appeals

  • R v Anthony James Drew [2003] 1 WLR 1213 (HL) – House of Lords case concerning mandatory life sentence provisions. Involved declaration of incompatibility under Human Rights Act 1998. The Home Secretary intervened due to the significance of the case.

Fraud & Financial Crime

  • Operation Dowel – Worcester Crown Court – Junior counsel in £50m MTIC carousel fraud over 12 weeks.
  • Environment Agency v M & Others – Prosecuted directors for laundering £350,000 in company funds. The defense successfully challenged the agency’s jurisdiction over the charges.

Regulatory & Other Work

  • Bridgend County Council & Others v WT (E. Coli outbreak) – Represented defendants in enforcement and criminal proceedings following UK’s second largest E. Coli 0157 outbreak. Enforcement action was deemed procedurally flawed by Mr Justice Curtis.
  • R v FW – A case involving initial allegation of stranger rape and abduction, followed by historic allegations.
  • Operation Rhino – Leading junior in a prosecution involving police misconduct and data protection issues.
