Regulatory, Inquiries & Inquests
Chambers has a long-standing tradition in all aspects of regulatory law. Members of the group are regularly instructed to prosecute and defend in consumer law, including trading standards and trademark offences. Due to our close proximity to Companies House (all prosecutions being commenced and heard in Cardiff) we have developed significant expertise in all aspects of proceedings arising out of breaches of company law, in particular dealing with directors disqualifications. Chambers has also been involved in many of the most high profile food safety prosecutions in South Wales.
In addition the team has experience in the following areas of regulatory law;
- Environmental law
- Health & Safety law
- Food safety (including licensing of abattoirs)
- Noise nuisance
- Breaches of planning law
- Unlicensed street trading
- Animal welfare
- Operator’s licence for goods vehicles
Over many years members of Chambers have appeared in numerous high profile and complex inquiries representing all parties within such proceedings. Members of the team have broad experience across a variety of practice areas that complement the needs and expectations of those who instruct us in such matters.
Members of the team represent interested parties in Inquests ranging from the straightforward Coroner only Inquests to long and complex cases in front of a Jury. Most members of the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Team also accept instructions to appear at Inquests with a view to providing consistent representation throughout any subsequent Fatal Accident litigation.
Chambers provides consistency of representation for hearings which are also subject to police or Health and Safety Executive investigations and prosecutions. Members of the team have appeared in criminal proceedings following on from Coroners Inquests including corporate manslaughter offences, serious breaches of health and safety law and gross negligence manslaughter
