Practice Overview

Rebecca is an experienced practitioner in all types of family financial disputes including matrimonial finance, cohabitee disputes, probate and Inheritance Act claims and financial provision for children.

She undertakes both private and legal aid work in matrimonial finance dealing with a wide range of cases including those involving companies, inheritances and financial misconduct.

Rebecca has particular experience in matrimonial finance cases involving third party interveners and is skilled in utilising her chancery experience to resolve factual disputes about ownership of property to enable assets hidden in the names of third parties to be reclaimed by way of s37 applications.

In cohabitee disputes she deals frequently with both straightforward TOLATA claims in relation to property and also disputes concerning chattels and, on occasion, pets.

Rebecca acts for both claimants and defendants in the full range of contested probate matters including validity of wills and applications to replace an executor. She also deals with Inheritance Act claims and has particular skill in using shuttle negotiation and round-table meetings to resolve matters without the expense of fully contested court proceedings.

Rebecca has a well-developed practice in Immigration and Asylum law and appears frequently before both the First Tier Tribunal and the Upper Tribunal. Her experience includes the specific challenges raised by cases involving policies outside the rules and a number of cases involving suspected war criminals.

She also and advises and appears in Judicial Review proceedings in an immigration context. She acts for immigrants, employers and other organisations such as colleges in respect of decisions, or failures to act, by the Border Agency. She also advises both claimants and defendants in respect of decisions affecting immigrants, such as NASS and local authority housing entitlement.

Rebecca also deals with mental health and vulnerable adult cases acting both in an advisory capacity and by way of representation before the Court of Protection.

Rebecca is a frequent speaker at both internal and external conferences and seminars.
