Practice Overview

Andrew’s main areas of practice are criminal law, personal injury claims and advising local authorities in criminal and disclosure matters.

Predominantly Andrew practices in the Crown Court prosecuting and defending all levels of crime as a category 4 CPS prosecutor in cases such as serious violence, sexual offences, drugs offences, fraud and proceeds of crime applications. In recent years he has appeared in a number of long running investigations including multi-handed drugs conspiracies, cash-in-transit robberies and complex VAT frauds.

Andrew also regularly advises and represents local authorities in the criminal courts and criminal investigations and has particular experience in third party disclosure cases along with a developing interest in regulatory powers and investigations. Andrew has delivered a number of lectures to local authority solicitors covering issues such as disclosure and powers under RIPA.

In the personal injury field Andrew has extensive experience in representing claimants both on a private and conditional fee basis. He advises, drafts pleadings and appears in fast-track and multi-track cases in all areas of personal injury work including employer's liability claims, occupier's liability claims, road traffic accidents and highway claims. He has also acted for interested parties in inquests.

Notable and Reported cases

  • HSE –v- RWEnpower Plc & Amec Group Limited
    Junior Counsel (led by Lloyd Williams QC) defending a multi-national company in a HSE prosecution following the death of a worker at power station.
  • Operation Heist/Sherpa
    Junior Counsel (led by Huw Evans) prosecuting a large scale investigation of a number of cash-in-transit robberies and conspiracies to rob high value items. A significant amount of work was undertaken in relation to cell-site analysis.
  • Operation Ukraine
    Junior Counsel (led by Huw Evans) defending in a long running VAT fraud conducted on a VHCC basis. The case concerned the evasion of VAT on cars imported from EU member states.
  • Operation Rebus
    Defence Counsel in a multi-handed large scale drugs conspiracy concerning the supply of Class A drugs. The case involved significant covert surveillance of the defendants, complicated telephone evidence and probe evidence.
